The state of Illinois requires registration for certification with the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation to work as a pharmacy technician. There are two variations to apply for: Certified Pharmacy Technician and Student Pharmacy Technician.
To register as a pharmacy technician, submit a completed application along with a $40 application fee.

Training for pharmacy technology must be obtained from one of the programs or schools approved by the a nationally recognize accreditation agency, such as the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
National certification is required to be a Certified Pharmacy Technician in Illinois and is accepted either from the PTCB or ExCPT.
